Welcome to Your Comfortable Horse

Until very recently, the belief was that horses needed shoes to be able to perform well. However, there are now thousands of horses out there competing in a wide range of disciplines at all levels, all managing without the artificial support of a shoe.

Your Comfortable Horse offers today's horse owner insight into an alternative to traditional hoof care, a more holistic approach based on modern research and the science of Applied Equine Podiatry (AEP). My aim is to share with you the understanding of the true structure and function of the equine foot so that you will be able to make an informed decision about the future care and management of your horse’s feet.

About me

I live in Linton, Cambridgeshire. Qualifying in September 2011 with the founder of the Institute of Applied Equine Podiatry, KC La Pierre, I am a fully trained and accredited Decreed Applied Equine Podiatrist (DAEP).

My own barefoot journey started when one of her friends' horses, Digby, became so distressed by the farrier that a professional trainer (Intelligent Horsemanship Recommended Associate Liz Pitman) was called out to help. Liz introduced the idea of barefoot trimming. It was not long after the switch to barefoot that the differences began to show. I watched as feet began to change shape and heal, and horses that had previously been uncomfortable became sound. It was clear to me that this was the way to go.

Hand in hand with my beliefs in the benefit to the horse of barefoot trimming are my beliefs in fair training methods. As well as having already taken several courses, I am is still actively pursuing my education into equine psychology and training.

Testimonial

"Having watched Teresa first trim my pony, Jinx's, feet on a windy day when she was unsettled, I was impressed at Teresa's patience and professionalism. Where others may have got annoyed, Teresa helped Jinx settle, then quietly carried on."

Applied Equine Podiatry (AEP) The conscientious study of the equine foot, always striving to expose it to proper environmental stimuli, making every effort to promote proper structure and function, as we attempt to achieve high performance. K C La Pierre RJF, PhD.

Nancy

Nancy 7yr old Cobx

Owned by Claire for two weeks on my first visit. Nancy had received limited foot care and handling in her previous home and not much is known about her past. Despite initial appearance of cracks, growth rings and mechanical flare from overgrown walls. Nancy will have very good feet scoring well on the spectrum for her first trim. She is being ridden most days with a mixture of road and school work. With Claires hard work and daily foot handling routine Nancy was much more relaxed on my second visit recently and her foot handling had massively improved.
